This won't allow for higher (HD) resolutions as the wii itself cannot do this, but it will improve picture quality by sharpening it and removing the fuzziness/strobing that can be seen around bright colours much like a scart lead over the yellow-red-white composite. Only worth it if the fuzz REALLY bothers you!!

while component cables in general are capable of delivering HD, the Wii is not. You will get no better that 480P from your Wii with this cable or any component cable.
